Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from the family members, she was raised up by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford began to be fascinated by acting as a teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good fit there. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement after her third try, applied and won a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of Ford's classmates. Ford could graduate in 1993. She already had her TV debut in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. In the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Alongside her usual performances in the theatre, Tate also joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in 1996.
